We are currently conducting a confidential search for a mid-size Data Center company headquartered in the Bay Area with 10+ years in the business experiencing major organizational expansion. They are a major player to the pure-play wholesale data centres market. There business model provides tremendous flexibility to their customer base in strategic operating advantages, reduction in data center capital & operating expense and wholesale power rates. Their high touch customer centric approach has contributed as well to their stellar reputation. There largest campus is located in the South Bay Area and have plans to expand to other regions in the United States.

Position Overview

The IT & Security Department for client is very hands on. In most cases, our client will specify, purchase, configure and maintain all networking and server hardware. We also work closely with partner VARs to learn about the latest technology changes so we can make informed purchase decisions. The IT department is always looking for ways to strike the best balance between technology, performance and cost. The client’ s IT also participates in designing each of our new data center building’ s networking infrastructure, including but not limited to: diverse pathways connecting to carriers, meet-me room (MMR) hosting (rack, cabs, ladders, cross connect panels…), wireless AP coverage, etc. We are seeking professionals that enjoy getting their hands dirty and helping to design, build and maintain IT infrastructure in a cutting edge/modern data center.

Essential Job Functions

• Manage, support and maintain IT infrastructure

• Manage VMware 5.5 virtual environment with Tegile SAN and Brocade switches

• Setup and configure Windows Servers 2008 (and newer servers) in VMware virtual environment

• System administration of Active Directory 2008, MS SharePoint 2010, Skype for Business Online services through Office 365

• Network design, capacity planning and administration of Cisco Layer 2, Layer 3 switches and ASA firewalls

• Manage data backup and disaster recovery using Veeam

• Experience with scripting and automation of administrative tasks

• Setup, support and manage network monitoring system using SolarWinds

• Manage tasks in accordance with client SLAs

• Develop and implement Standard Operations Procedures

• Interface with internal data center design team, construction team, supporting data center infrastructure augments as needed

• Facilitate data center commissioning operations

• Oversee automation system commissioning to ensure best possible data center performance is maintained

• Document all critical evolutions, lessons learned, and find possible efficiency gains in processes

• Support, and monitor vendor activities ensuring work activities meet scope of work and follow established procedures

• Respond as-needed when system maintenance or complications arise

• Occasional helpdesk support items for users

• Some travel – minimal (10%)

• Other duties may be assigned from time-to-time by management


Job Requirements 

• Bachelor of Science degree, or equivalent experience, in Information Technology preferred

• 8 years of experience in IT required, 12+ years preferred

• Data Center experience is strongly preferred, but not required

• Strong skills with VMware, MS Servers and Cisco Networking required

• Knowledge of Office365, monitoring systems, SQL databases and Lenel OnGuard

• Proficient with fiber cross connects, testing and network room build out

• Strong experience with network design and configuration, routers, switches and Cisco ASA firewalls

• Ability to lift 50lbs. Ability to maneuver packages of weights above 50lbs. with appropriate equipment and/or assistance from another person

• Travel required is expected to be less than 10%, but may increase over time as the business evolves
